Associate Director of Nursing: Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Services

Location:      Porirua- 20 minutes from Wellington city.

Service:        Mental Health, Addictions & Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS)

Contract:     Permanent, full time

The Associate Director of Nursing (ADoN) will support the Director of Nursing to enable enhanced clinical support for nursing staff to facilitate consistency of practice and standards, be part of service delivery / model of care discussions and overall create a greater visibility for the profession.

 

Duties

  • Provide specialist advice on specified workforce priorities that will enhance the delivery of effective health services to our population
  • Provide professional leadership to nurses
  • Assist the Director of Nursing with registration, supervision, workforce development and performance appraisals
  • Work closely with other Professional Leaders and in collaboration and cooperation with their counterparts and other related positions in the rest of the 3 DHBs

 

Skills & experience

  • Master’s degree in nursing preferred (or minimum Post Graduate papers in mental health nursing)
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse.
  • A current practising certificate and relevant scope of practice
  • Current PDRP portfolio (or obtaining within 6 months of commencing role)
  • Has held a senior clinical role in nursing in the health sector, preferably in the Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Sector
  • Has extensive knowledge and perspective of Mental Health, Addictions &/or Intellectual Disability service delivery

Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. CCDHB operates two hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kapiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu. 

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three DHBs - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHB’s and includes local, regional, and national services. There are regional services for the central region across six DHBs, including the forensic and rehabilitation service with bases throughout the lower half of the north Island; and national services (the Intellectual Disability Services with five bases located in Auckland, Cambridge, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin and inpatient units at Rātonga Rua o Porirua). The national youth forensic facility at Kenepuru Hospital sits within the Forensic and Rehabilitation Service.
