Youth Alcohol and Other Drugs / Co-existing Problems

We are seeking an enthusiastic Mental Health/Addictions professional with experience in working with youth who experience mental health and substance misuse issues. The focus of this service is to support the practice of a range of primary care and specialist services in their work with young people with co-existing mental health and substance use problems. It is an opportunity to be at the forefront of service development as we seek to establish and support a network of services for the youth of the greater Wellington area.

Ideally you will have worked in youth mental health and/or substance misuse and have strong and demonstrable interest/competency in mental health and addictions practice, sufficient for individual work with clients as well as for supporting the practice of other clinicians.


  • Provision of specialist assessment and treatment advice to support the capability of primary care and specialist service clinicians in their work with young people
  • Provision of limited casework to young people with complex co-existing mental health and substance use issues.
  • Support further specialist service development including specialist addictions intervention

Skills & Experience:


  • Registered Health Professional with a Mental Health and/or Addictions scope of practice.
  • At least 5 years post graduate practice in youth mental health or substance misuse service

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three DHBs - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHB’s and includes local, regional, and national services. The local MHAIDS services are provided from multiple sites within the 3DHB sub-region – greater Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa.
